Background

Fear, uncertainty, and being holed up at home to slow the spread of the coronavirus can make it tough for families to keep a sense of calm. In this pandemic, parents are struggling to balance work, child care, and self-care while keeping worries for the whole family at bay.

Challenge

Develop a mobile app that helps parents care for their children while the whole family is working and schooling at home. Care can be in the form of mental, physical, or emotional. Even small gestures of assistance through building community, education, and support can help to alleviate parental stress and anxiety. A few suggestions to help parents with an app might be to:

  1. Address children's fears

  2. Keep healthy routines

  3. Use positive discipline

  4. Create time for self-care

  5. Balance together time and alone time

  6. Discover safe activities for the whole family

Parents would like an app that:

  • Tracks changes in child's moods and behaviors to help see patterns that could be affected by fear or overt concern

  • Keeps a clear schedule for all household members

  • Generates ideas for what to do with limited access to things outside the house

  • Provides tips on how to balance work/school & self-care/downtime

  • Keeps children busy

  • Notifies them about local events that are COVID safe
